B&G welcomes Vanessa Maus as new partner of the agency
We are delighted to announce that after many years of enthusiastic and fruitful work Vanessa Maus has been promoted to a new position of responsibility as partner of Berla & Griffini Rights Agency.
Vanessa Maus started as intern at B&G in 2009. At that time, the Milan-based agency's team consisted of only three people. Vanessa’s journey began with handling contracts for German-speaking clients, and soon saw her take charge of the rights of all children's and young adult books, an area that has flourished under her passionate care and become a significant part of the agency. From 2019 onwards she has become Senior Agent and expanded her area of representation to include some major adult lists, negotiating important deals such as the autobiographies of Angela Merkel and Britney Spears, among others.
In 2021, Vanessa also took on the position of director for contracts management and administration, consolidating her role as enthusiastic leader and “go-to person” for the whole team.
Barbara Griffini: “I am very happy to have found in Vanessa Maus a solid and reliable pillar of the agency to whom I entrust the inconspicuous but essential task of the punctual and efficient management of our authors' rights and accounts. I am certain that Vanessa will be able to find new ideas and incentives to guarantee the high level of professionalism that has been a trademark of our agency in all these years.”
Erica Berla: “Vanessa, as well as being a crucial support in all practical aspects, her editorial flair and business acumen have made her an important new ally with whom I enjoy analysing negotiation strategies, ethical decisions and complex situations. I am delighted to have Vanessa on board and be able to share with her the challenges of broadening B&G's horizons in the years to come.”
Vanessa Maus: “Since my arrival at B&G I have appreciated and benefited from Barbara and Erica's passion, instinct and professionalism. Their different personalities, which have always led them to exchange points of view and inspire each other, having been a great opportunity to discover the many facets of the Italian and international publishing reality from different but complementary perspectives. I am grateful to both of them for their trust and I am enthusiastic about this new role within the B&G team.”
Berla & Griffini Rights Agency was founded in 2007 by Erica Berla and Barbara Griffini with the aim of offering publishers, foreign agencies and authors a representation with emphasis on high professionalism, fairness and a sense of responsibility in the fulfillment of its role as an important link within the publishing chain.
The representation of almost the entire German publishing industry gives B&G a unique position and a 360° view of what is exported by German-language publishing in the world. In the last two years, Italy has been in second place for German-language book acquisitions.
In its 17 years of existence, B&G has continued to grow and take on new clients from the English Language and German-speaking world, and has come to represent 270 publishing houses and agencies, including quite a few Nobel Prize winners.
It is no surprise that the team has also expanded over the years and now counts on the enthusiasm and skills of 9 members.
