Booker Prize 2020 - the Shortlist
Two titles that we represent in Italy have been selected and enter the 2020 Booker Prize shortlist!
The winner will be announced on November 17th.
The New Wilderness, Diane Cook (The Gernert Company) - Italian rights are still free
Smog and pollution are slowly killing Bea's five-year-old daughter, Agnes. Bea knows she cannot stay in the City, but there is only one alternative: The Wilderness State. A vast espanse of untamed land into where mankind has never been allowed to venture.
"At once a blazing lament of our contempt for nature and a deeply humane portrayal of motherhood, and what it means to be human, The New Wilderness is an extraordinary, compelling novel for our times."
Real Life, Brandon Taylor (Riverhead ) - rights sold in Italy to Codice Edizioni
Wallace feels completely out of place in the Midwestern university town where he studies: he is black, queer, introverted and has a difficult past. For his self-preservation, Wallace is mantaining a certain distance even from his friends. But over the course of a weekend, a series of confrontations with colleagues, and an unexpected encounter with an ostensibly straight, white classmate, shatter his defenses.
"Deftly zooming in and out of focus, Real Life is a deeply affecting story about the emotional cost of reckoning with desire, and overcoming pain."
