Damon Galgut wins Booker Prize 2021!
We are excited to join Felicity Bryan Associates in congratulating Damon Galgut on winning this year's Booker Prize for his novel The Promise!
This is Galgut’s third nomination: he was shorlisted in 2003 (The Good Doctor) and 2010 (In a Strange Room), and is now the winner of the 2021 edition. The prize was assigned by chief judge Maya Jasanoff during an entertaining ceremony the BBC streamed live to millions of viewers.
The novel has just been published in Italy by Edizioni E/O under the title La promessa. It is the deft and powerful story of a diminished family, set in South Africa during the transition to Post-Apartheid.
From the author's acceptance speech:
"Let me say this has been a great year for African writing, and I'd like to accept this on behalf of all the stories told and untold, the writers heard and unheard, from the remarkable continent I'm part of. Please keep listening to us, there's a lot more to come."
Galgut's literary debut published when he was just 17, The Promise is his ninth novel.
