Booker Prize 2021 - The shortlist
The shotlist for this year's Booker Prize for Fiction has been announced and we're happy to see Damon Galgut among the finalists with The Promise!
The winner will be announced on November 3rd at the Broadcasting House’s Radio Theatre and will receive £ 50.000! Each finalist will receive £ 2.500 and a special edition of their novels.
The Promise is a deft, powerful story of a diminished family and a troubled land. On their farm outside Pretoria, the Swarts are gathering for Ma’s funeral. The younger generation detests everything the family stands for, not least the failed promise to the Black woman who has worked for them her whole life. After years of service, Salome was promised her own house, her own land, yet somehow, as each decade passes, that promise remains unfulfilled.
