Judith Schalansky awarded Premio Strega Europeo 2020
Congratulations to Judith Schalansky, who has been awarded the Premio Strega Europeo 2020 with her An Inventory of Losses, published in Italy by nottetempo as Inventario di alcune cose perdute!
Beginning with objects from nature and art like an incinerated painting of Caspar David Friedrich’s, an extinct species of tiger, a Roman baroque villa, the holy writings of a vanished religion or a sunken island in the Pacific, she presents a panorama of the long lost and disappeared, a panorama which traces the world’s blank spaces together with those within natural and cultural history while opening up areas of knowledge where delivery has failed.
Due to the pandemic, the 2020 award ceremony took place behind closed doors. Judith Schalansky will therefore be present at the Turin International Book Fair together with the finalists for this year's ceremony in 2021, as well as her Italian translator Flavia Pantanella.
