Shida Bazyar shortlisted for the Premio Strega Europeo
We are excited to see Nachts ist es leise in Teheran by Shida Bazyar shortlisted for the Premio Strega Europeo 2024!
The novel was originally published by Kiepenheuer & Witsch in 2016, and its Italian edition was released last September by Fandango under the title Di notte tutto è silenzio a Teheran (translation by Lavinia Azzone).
It tells the story of an Iranian family moving to Germany after the 1979 revolution. Beshad and Nahid do not share the values of their host country and hope to return to Iran one day, whereas their children have difficulties in finding an identity because of their two cultures.
An enlightening book on the situation in Iran, between exile, desire for freedom and attachment to one's roots.
Each candidate will present their book at Turin International Book Fair. The appointment with Bazyar is scheduled for May 10 at 17:15 at the Sala internazionale. The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, 12 May at 18:30 at the Circolo dei Lettori in Turin.
